It’s not immediately clear when seen on screen what is happening, we are used to seeing things flat on a screen not at angles. The work was inspired by Drumroll (1998), by Steve McQueen as he fixed cameras to a barrel and rolled the barrel through Manhattan streets. Trolly (2008) is a film, shot from inside a supermarket trolly that’s being pushed along. The camera is sloping upwards slightly and is at an an angle. The trolly moves at a very slow pace, almost to slow, the sounds around are familiar but harsh at times. The work is viewed as a cube, the three visible side showing the same moving image, the space around black and empty. For many years I have been looking at ways I can express myself visually. It’s only now I am realising I can do that with my cameras and software. It’s only been recently that I have been using and experimenting with video cameras and editing programs. I have always been interested in the moving image, ever since I saw a Super8 projector, camera, and spool of films. Before that it was a toy projector and slide strips (the Jungle Book)
